Believe Out Loud Power Summit

The Believe Out Loud Power Summit is an advanced training for leaders in the Welcoming Church Movement.

Please join us for:

  • Concrete Skills-building in key areas of organizing and movement building such as:
    • Building effective teams for work within our denominations
    • Building effective and strategic campaigns within our denominations and for partnerships with secular efforts.
    • Working at the intersections of race, faith, aging and economic justice
    • Taking leadership to the next level
    • Media and messaging
    • Board Development
    • Fundraising
    • Transgender and Bisexual
  • Action-planning within our denominations and in partnership with local and state-wide secular efforts
  • Dynamic Worship
  • Visioning about the world we want to leave for our children

TRACKS & TOPICS (Each track will meet for 6 sessions of 1½ hour each)

  • Leadership Development/New Leadership
    • Recruitment and expanding leadership (including across lines of difference such as race)
    • Building and executing practical plans
    • Targeting particular populations - Who? Why? How? Best way?
  • Campaigns - Church & Secular
    • Potential roles for mobilized faith folk, including maintaining identity as church in secular campaigns
    • Invitation/Recruitment and expanding leadership (including across lines of difference such as race)
    • Moving from mercy to justice; Jesus & Justice
  • Board of Directors
    • Driving teams towards a shared goal
    • Recruitment and expanding leadership (including across lines of difference such as race)
    • Targeting particular populations - Who? Why? How? Best way?
  • Barriers and Resistance/Conflict
    • Change Graph (led by Beth Zemsky)
    • I-Wheel
    • M. Scott Peck's theory on Pseudo-Community, Chaos, Emptiness, Community
  • External Communications
    • Recruitment/Targeting particular populations - Who? Why? How? Best Way?

Running across all of the different tracks will be through-lines including: scriptural affirmation, a look at race, bisexual and transgender inclusion, cultural power and political power, and our different identities as individuals, how we are connected to our local church, a part of our denomination, and our relationship to the larger Welcoming Church Movement.

REGISTRATION

You must register in advance. There is no cost to attend. However, you are responsible to pay for your own travel, lodging, and meals.

TRAVEL

If traveling by air, fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO). Information on shuttles between the airport and the hotel will be posted soon. If driving to Orlando, you can park at the hotel for free.

We have negotiated a rate of $119 per night. If you'd also like to do some vacationing while in Orlando, this rate is also available three days before and three days after the Power Summit.
