Among the actions coming out of the recently concluded biennial assembly are changes at the top leadership of Lutherans Concerned.

Emily Eastwood, on a medical leave of absence from the position of Executive Director, returned to that role on July 8, 2010. Though still working at part-time as her recovery continues, Emily said that her health is much improved and she expects to gain more strength back as time moves on. Emily’s return at the start of the assembly was greeted with a standing ovation. Emily said the aspects of LC/NA’s mission and work that she is going to concentrate on can be summed up as development and diplomacy, furthering the work of organizing people and resources for the work that lies ahead.

Ross Murray, initially hired as Associate Director and serving during Emily’s medical leave as Interim Executive Director, was promoted at assembly to serve as Deputy Director. Ross said that he and Emily will work as they have to the present, as a seamless top team directing the activities of LC/NA as we and the church move forward following the actions of the 2009 Churchwide Assembly. Speaking to the assembly, Emily praised Ross’s all-encompassing grasp of the strategy for the future of LC/NA, his attention to detail and managerial skills, and commitment to the work.

Both of them praised the work of staff and leadership in accomplishing the goals of LC/NA, working diligently and unsparingly to complete their tasks with the minimal expense of resources. They lifted up Operations Director Brett Bowman, Administration and Legislative Guru Tim Fisher, Data Entry Specialist Lissa Messner, and Ben Refling of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps for devotion above and beyond the call of any duty and for completing tasks that stretched any of the words in their job descriptions out of all recognition. The assembly responded with a standing ovation.
