Annise Parker wins run-off election to be mayor of Houston PDF Print E-mail

We told you in November that Annise Parker, the openly lesbian City Controller of Houston, was going to be in a run-off election. That took place yesterday and she will be the next mayor of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States.

She beat her opponent, Gene Locke 54% to 46%, in an election that the candidates from the beginning had focused on the issues, her sexual orientation not being one of those. Does not mean that there weren't others who tried to make it an issue, but the candidates did not, according to published reports.

Our congratulations to her, the other candidates, and the city of Houston.
