| January 15, 2008 KARE11 in the Twin Cities on the subject of the documentary For the Bible Tells Me So A very good piece of TV journalism ran on the Twin Cities' KARE11-TV Sunday, about the documentary film entitled For the Bible Tells Me So and the participation in that film by a local Minneapolis-St Paul family, the Reitans – Phil, Randi, and their son Jake. The KARE11 piece can be viewed online.
The Sunday piece opens with: "It divides families, friends, communities and clergy. It is a debate over one book and what it says about homosexuals. "My understanding is that Jesus, in Matthew 19 and Mark 10, says that sexual union is valid in a one man/one woman relationship," Pastor Dave Glesne says. "When someone says this is what the Bible says, my response to them is 'no;' that is what it reads. It is the struggle to understand context and language," Rev Laurence Keene says. "This debate is the thesis for the film For the Bible Tells Me So. "The 97-minute documentary weaves together the stories of five families, all touched by a gay or lesbian son or daughter. Included in the film are former presidential candidate Dick Gephardt's daughter Chrissy, Archbishop of New Hampshire Gene Robinson and a Minnesota family with a gay son, Jacob Reitan…" For the Bible Tells Me So is playing at theaters around the US, and is thought to be a nominee for an Academy Award in its category.
