Kate Stoeckel on the Lutheran Volunteer Corps and volunteering with LC/NA

Dear Friends,

As the new year starts, I'm forced to look forward to the end of my term as Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) intern with LC/NA. While I'll be moving on to a new stage of life come August, LC/NA will be welcoming a new LVC volunteer to the office. These are exciting times to be a part of this organization. And, the Youth, Young Adult, and Family program the volunteer will be working with is a great outlet for youthful enthusiasm and vision, as it is a dynamic and growing project.

LVC is an incredible organization that offers the opportunity to work with many fantastic organizations, of which LC/NA is just one. The chance to live in a community with other volunteers committed to simplicity, justice, and each other is truly unique and an incredible growth experience. Most volunteers are just out of college, but LVC considers any applicant over 21 years of age. Volunteers come from all over the country and from many faith backgrounds, but all are committed to a life of action, simplicity, justice, and faithful exploration. LVC is also an RIC and anti-racist organization, committed to dismantling injustice and becoming truly welcoming and affirming of all.

I encourage any of you who are looking for a new opportunity, new direction, or some time for discernment to consider applying for LVC. I encourage you to lift up this opportunity to young people you know who are searching for that something that is more than just a job.

LVC is now accepting applications for its 2008–2009 volunteer year; applicants are processed in three rounds. Deadlines are January 15th, March 14th, and May 1st. Volunteers go through a careful interview and selection process to insure the best possible match with an organization. LC/NA has high hopes for another successful year with another LVC intern.

You can download application materials and get more information about LVC at their website.

You can also contact me, Kate, at kates@lcna.org or 651-665-0861 if you have questions about the LC/NA position or LVC in general.

Peace,
