Communications Committee PDF Print E-mail

The Communications Committee works on aspects of internal and external public relations for Lutherans Concerned / North America. Members with a variety of experiences in public relations or just an interest in helping with aspects of communications can work on a variety of projects or ongoing aspects of LC/NA’s communications. The communications function is the principal point of contact for the press and acts in the role of spokesperson for the organization, usually but not exclusively through the Communications Director.

The communications function is the principal conduit for the release of information, press releases, white papers, and other documents that present the organization as a whole externally. Committee members can participate in the writing of such materials, the maintenance of press lists, and other activities both in the public eye and behind the scenes, depending on their desires and comfort level.  The communications function is responsible for the Concord, the membership journal, its editorial content, timeliness, and budget. Several members of the committee are directly responsible for putting the Concord together. Other members are part of the pool of writers that from time to time write articles on subjects of the Concord Editor’s choosing or their own suggestion / interest.  The communications function is responsible for the website, its content, organization, and currency. Members of the committee with an interest in this aspect of communications can work on projects related to keeping this public face of the organization appealing and interesting.

Time commitments will vary widely:  for the editors and layout person of the Concord, the commitment cycles four times a year and can be up to 20 person-hours a quarter in editorial, 30 person-hours in layout. Writers will contribute 8—10 person-hours a quarter when they are engaged in producing an article. How frequently that happens is up to the writer. Other aspects of communications are project-driven and difficult to quantify as a routine. Volunteers give only as much time as they agree to.
