Board of Directors Job Descriptions (2008–2010 Term)

Officers:
2 Co-Chairs (of differing genders): Chairs board meetings and business plenary sessions of the biennial Assembly. Serves two staggered terms (total commitment of four years). Supervises and supports the Executive Director.
Vice Chair for Development: Serves as chair when neither Co-chair is available. Responsible for convening and chairing a standing board committee for fundraising and development to both support the development activities and plans of the Executive Director and Development Director, and also to hold the staff accountable for meeting development goals and implementing new initiatives.. Other duties as needed and accepted.
Treasurer: Ultimately responsible for the financial health, accounting, and reporting of the organization. With the hiring of a full-time Operations Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day financial management, the role of the Treasurer involves primarily policy setting and oversight functions. Chairs the Finance Committee, which serves as Trustee of the LC/NA Endowment.
Secretary: Records official minutes of all meetings including biennial assemblies, board meetings, officer meetings and conference calls.
Chaplain (appointed by the Board of Directors — has voice but no vote): Provides pastoral care as needed for individual board members and staff. Attends board and officer meetings, providing pastoral facilitation, bible study, and worship.
Additional Board Members:
Director of Communications: Responsible for all facets of the Concord such as coordination with the editor, and serving on the Editorial Board. Responsible for all facets of the LC/NA website including coordination with the webmaster. Responsible for submission of all press releases as well as mass email messages.
Director(s) of Multicultural Relations: Responsible for outreach to the Latino/a community, including overseeing translation of key documents and La Concordia. Responsible for raising awareness of cultural diversities to the Board of Directors, staff, as well as the general LC/NA membership. Chairs the Multicultural Task Force.
Director of International Programs: Responsible for the Brazil Partnership Project, liaison to the global efforts of obtaining justice within the Church, serves as LC/NA’s liaison to the Lutheran World Federation, coordinates workshops and attendance by international guests at the biennial assembly. Chairs the International Programs Committee.
Director of Youth, Young Adult, and Family Ministry: Serves as official liaison to LSM and LYO, develops a relationship with the national PFLAG and other similar organizations, coordinates efforts to develop LC/NA programming targeted for youth, young adults and families, and coordinates youth, young adult and family ministry conferences. Chairs the Youth, Young Adult and Family Ministry Committee.

Regional Coordinator Job Description for 2008–2010 Term (Rev 04/2008)

Regional Coordinators (RCs) are nominated and selected by the Board of Directors before the biennial Assembly for two-year terms. The Regional Coordinator function may be filled by an individual coordinator or two (2) co-coordinators.
The primary responsibilities of the RCs include:
- nurturing existing Chapters and RIC Core Team(s)
- seeking the formation of new Chapters and RIC Core Teams
- maintaining regular contact with unchaptered members in the region
- ongoing communication with LC/NA
Regional Coordinators are accountable to the Grassroots Organizing Coordinator.
To carry out these responsibilities, RCs are expected to:
- educate Chapters/RIC Core Teams regarding the vision and mission of LC/NA, and empower them to act
- encourage and aid in the development of new Chapters/RIC Core Teams and support, assist and visit existing Chapters/RIC Core Teams in the region
- advise and assist the Reconciling In Christ (RIC) Core Teams / Chapters in developing new RIC congregations
- make regular reports of activities and expenses to the Grassroots Organizing Coordinator
- develop contacts with local synod/district/church leaders and organizations to help accomplish the goals of LC/NA
- help implement plans and achieve goals established in regional caucuses at the Assembly or at other regional gatherings
- encourage regional activities and events
- identify and develop future leaders in the region
- assist the Executive Director with additional local fundraising efforts (such as hosting fundraising events, attending local fundraising events, etc.)
- educate themselves in order to assist in the full incorporation of bisexual and transgender persons in the RIC settings in the region, at other Lutherans Concerned events, and with the general membership.
A small budgeted amount is allocated to each region to use in carrying out the above functions. RCs will be informed of their budget when approved by the Board of Directors. The reimbursement policy for conferences, meetings, conference calls and approved expenses is the same policy as for board members.
Please note the following time requirements in order to be an RC for this biennium (July '08–'10):
- Attendance at the Hearts on Fire LC/NA Assembly July 2–6, 2008
- Attendance at the Many Stories One Voice Conference September 4–7, 2008
- Attendance at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly August 17–23, 2009
